Privacy Policy

WildEye – Fishing & Hunting application requires permission to collect location information in the background. This means that the application can collect location information even when the application is closed or not running. The reminder of this document describes when and how the application collects the location information and how the collected information is used.

Location Data Collection Policy

During an active fishing or hunting session WildEye – Fishing & Hunting application will collect location information. Location information is collected even if you exit the application. This is done in the background. During an active session the application will display a permanent notification to inform the user that location information is collected. The notification looks as follows:

Active session notification

Notification informs that weather and location data is collected

The frequency at which the location is collected in the background depends on the options selected when the session was started. As long as the session is running the application will collect location information even if you exit the application itself and the device is in sleep mode. Configuring the the period of the location information collection is done using the start session window:

Movement options control the time at which the location collection is performed

Location information is not collected when there is no active session. When the fishing or hunting session is closed, location information is no longer collected even if the application is running.

Location Data Storage Policy

Location data is stored on the users device only. No location data is send outside of the users device or shared with other applications.

Note: Later versions of WildEye starting from version 2.x may send the initial location to a data server. The initial location is collected when the session is started (see photo above under Current location and weather). Location information that is collected when the application is not running is not sent outside the device in the current version or in any subsequent versions that might be released.

Location Data Usage

Location data is used to display the path followed during a fishing or hunting session. The collected information can be reviewed on a mini-map at the end of the session review window. The location information collected is displayed as a blue line on the map as in the image below:

Displayed track based on collected location information

During an active session the collected location information can be reviewed in the explore window. The explore window can be accessed from the main application view. Information is similarly displayed as a blue track on the map.

Sending Location Data Off the Device

Location data is sent off device when a weather update is requested. The latest location is used in the url that requests weather information to receive the information relevant for the current location. Weather information is requested from Open Weather Maps (https://openweathermap.org/api).
